Our Year 1 100 Day Party

On Friday it was our 100th day this year at school and we celebrated it with a special party!
All year we have been keeping track of how many days we have been at school by putting a stick in a cup each morning. Each time we had collected ten sticks in the cup, they would get bundled up with an elastic band and we would check to see how many tens and ones we had. Then we would fill in our special tens and ones chart, as well as colour in one more square on our hundreds square.
On Friday there was great excitement and many children came dressed up in clothes which symbolised the number 100! Each class took part in five maths activities over the morning, including making flags with the number 100 on, creating paper chains with a hundred links, ICT games, making special hats and building mini structures with 100 objects. Here are some pictures of Room 10 in our cool outfits and hats!

Autumn

We have been looking at how the weather and our environment both change in Autumn, as we noticed that lots of the leaves on the trees around school were changing colour, falling to the ground and then having to be cleared up by Ken with his leaf blower! Here are some of the things we have been doing:
  • Going for a walk down in our gully and collecting different leaves
  • Writing Autumn poems
  • Doing leaf rubbings with the leaves we collected
  • Making Autumn collages
  • Writing recounts about how we created our collages
You can see some of our lovely work by looking through our individual reading books in the library corner in Room 10. This is where many of our items of published work go to show what great authors we are!

Our Class Assembly

Rooms 9 and 10 have been very busy over the past couple of weeks practising for our school assembly. For a few of us this would have been our very first time on the school stage! We shared some of our work on 'Ako,' talking about some of the things we have managed to teach each other. We also sang some lovely songs including the "Individuality" song and "The More We Learn Together."

Swimming Art

This term we have had great fun learning new swimming skills as part of our Hilton Brown Swimming programme. We got to go down to the pool each day for two weeks for lessons with our fantastic instructors. In class we followed this up by writing some recounts about what we had done, as well as some lovely art work. We created these colourful swimming portraits by drawing ourselves, and using vivid pens to do the outlines and oil pastels to colour in our bodies. We did the backgrounds by using white oil pastels to do the bubbles and then cold water dye to do the water. You can come and see our work which is on display in the school hall. We hope you like our pictures!
